Retirement Villages & Aged Care 2025 - Understanding the Law & Advising with Confidence - 11 November 2025 (On Demand)
1.25 CPD Hours
Description
Join us for an overview of the legislative frameworks governing retirement villages and aged care, with a focus on occupation right agreements. Gain practical insights and tips to advise residents with confidence as they move into independent living or care.
Access to aged care is a common motivator for residents moving into retirement villages, whether they need it now or are planning for the future. With 65% of retirement villages also offering some form of aged care, the rise in care suite, and increasing demand on these services, it is critical that intending residents have a clear understanding of what care is available and how it is accessed when they are moving into a retirement village.
As legal advisors, our role is to help our clients understand the agreements that they are entering into, including their right to access care if they need it, and assist with the process of transitioning to aged care, including terminating their independent living occupation right agreements (ORAs) and using the termination proceeds to fund their aged care if that is required.
This webinar will discuss the legislative framework for retirement villages and aged care and then focus on practical issues and considerations when advising residents entering into ORAs for independent living and aged care.
Topics covered will include:
- A brief overview of the retirement village and aged care legislative framework in New Zealand.
- The different focus for independent living and care suites and the resulting differences in ORA terms.
- The process for transitioning from retirement village living into aged care.
- Practical advice for advising residents moving into retirement villages, with a particular focus on access to aged care.
